Rayan, Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson scored as Bournemouth won at Old Trafford for a fourth straight victory, while United — with captain Bruno Fernandes benched for the entire match — fell to 16th, one point above the relegation zone.

MANCHESTER, England — AFC Bournemouth beat Manchester United 3–0 at Old Trafford on Sunday, scoring twice in five minutes late in the first half and again in the second, in a match United played from start to finish without their captain, Bruno Fernandes, on the field.
Rayan opened the scoring in the 38th minute, and Marcus Tavernier doubled Bournemouth’s lead five minutes later, in the 43rd, sending the visitors into halftime two goals ahead. Evanilson added the third goal in the 71st minute, completing a win that stands as Bournemouth’s fourth in a row in all competitions.
Bournemouth’s first two goals came five minutes apart, in the 38th and 43rd minutes, both of them before halftime. The third, from Evanilson in the 71st minute, made the score 3–0 with 19 minutes left to play, and Bournemouth held that margin to the final whistle.
The lineup decision overshadowed the match for the home side. United manager Michael Carrick left Fernandes, his captain, on the bench for the entire match, and the midfielder never came on. The benching followed Fernandes’ criticism of Carrick’s tactics after United’s 4–1 Champions League defeat to Como in midweek, and Carrick did not turn to him at any point as the game moved away from United. Fernandes stayed on the bench through halftime, with United trailing 2–0, and through the second half as well, after Evanilson’s goal put Bournemouth three ahead — the captain an unused substitute for the full match in a home defeat.
The defeat dropped Manchester United to 16th place in the Premier League table. United have seven points and sit one point above the relegation zone, a position built on a run of results that now stretches back two months: United have not won a league match since August 30, when they beat Ipswich 5–2.
The longer run covers every competition. United are now winless in eight straight matches in all competitions, and the loss to Bournemouth was their third home defeat in four matches at Old Trafford, their own ground providing no protection during the slide that has carried them to the edge of the bottom three.
Bournemouth’s side of the record reads in the opposite direction. The victory was their fourth straight win in all competitions, and it extended their unbeaten run against Manchester United to seven straight meetings between the clubs. Rayan, Tavernier and Evanilson provided the goals across a 33-minute span on either side of halftime, and Bournemouth protected the three-goal margin through the final whistle.
Bournemouth’s three goals came from three different scorers, and the visitors kept a clean sheet at the other end, holding United scoreless at Old Trafford. Rayan struck first in the 38th minute, Tavernier followed in the 43rd, and Evanilson closed the scoring in the 71st — a three-goal away win assembled at both ends of the field and finished without reply.
The final score was Manchester United 0, AFC Bournemouth 3: Rayan in the 38th minute, Tavernier in the 43rd and Evanilson in the 71st, at Old Trafford. United remain 16th on seven points, one above the relegation zone, without a league win since August 30 and without a win of any kind in eight matches. Bournemouth leave Manchester with a fourth consecutive victory and a seven-match unbeaten run in this fixture.
