Bravo announced a slate of renewals and new series on Friday, October 23, ahead of its Fan Fest in Charleston, South Carolina. The network renewed “In the City” for a second season, “Next Gen NYC” for a third season and “Southern Hospitality” for a fifth season, and it gave a series greenlight to “Next Gen Atlanta,” a new entry in its “Next Gen” franchise. The network also unveiled “Charmed by a Southern Monster,” its first scripted microdrama, starring Craig Conover and Nicole Mattox. People and The Hollywood Reporter carried the announcements, which Bravo detailed in a release from its parent company, NBCUniversal.
“Next Gen Atlanta” extends the format of “Next Gen NYC” to a second city. In the description carried by Bravo’s release, the series follows a new generation of rising personalities in Atlanta as they juggle careers, friendships and family dynamics; some have famous ties, the release said, while others are building their reputations from the ground up. Bravo has not announced a cast for “Next Gen Atlanta,” and it has not announced a premiere date.
“Charmed by a Southern Monster” is a first for the network: a scripted series, made as a microdrama for mobile viewing. It stars Craig Conover of “Southern Charm” as Hunter Caldwell and Nicole Mattox as Maeve Marchant, and it premieres Monday, November 9, exclusively on the Peacock mobile app. In the logline published by TheWrap, Marchant is a corporate fixer sent to convince Caldwell — a man rumored to be a murderer — into selling his family’s estate, and discovers that the town’s most feared man may be its most misunderstood, and the only person who can protect her from a dangerous ex-boyfriend.
The microdrama is produced by Micromaker and Haymaker East, according to TheWrap. The same companies produced Peacock’s earlier vertical-video series built around Bravo personalities, which were unscripted: Madison LeCroy’s “Salon Confessionals” and “Campus Confidential: Miami” with Georgia Gay. NBCUniversal said the scripted series builds on Peacock’s growing vertical video offering.
For the three renewed series, Bravo confirmed the new seasons without announcing premiere dates. Bravo’s own coverage of the “Southern Hospitality” renewal states that the Season 5 cast has not been announced and that no premiere date has been set. Reports in the trades say production on Season 2 of “In the City” has already begun in New York City; a returning cast for that season has not been officially announced.
The announcements set the stage for Bravo Fan Fest Charleston, held Saturday, October 24. NBCUniversal said the event would bring fans together with more than 40 Bravolebrities for a full day of live panels, photo opportunities and fan experiences. Peacock, Bravo’s streaming home, livestreamed the main stage panels, with on-the-ground interviews and behind-the-scenes segments posted on demand following the weekend.
What Bravo did not announce is as specific as what it did. No premiere date was given for “Next Gen Atlanta,” for any of the three renewed series, or for any returning cast member beyond the renewal orders themselves. The one date on the calendar is November 9, when “Charmed by a Southern Monster” reaches the Peacock mobile app.
