The Celebrity Traitors, the BBC One reality series hosted by Claudia Winkleman, has drawn the largest television audience of 2026. Its launch episode achieved the biggest TV audience of the year so far, the BBC said in figures reported by PA Media, and the series reached a peak of 10.3 million viewers on Thursday night.

The series, made by Studio Lambert in Scotland, brought 21 celebrity contestants to Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands. Those chosen as Traitors “murder” a fellow player each night, while the rest, the Faithful, try to identify them, PA reported. The celebrities are playing for a prize pot of up to £100,000 for charity.

The BBC said the opening episode was watched by 15.7 million people within seven days of its broadcast, in figures carried by Radio Times and Particle News. PA Media, citing the ratings organisation Barb, put the launch episode’s average audience at 15.41 million, and described it as the largest TV audience so far in 2026. The two figures are different measures of the launch — a seven-day total against a Barb average — and both were published this week. The BBC said the second episode drew 15.2 million within seven days, and that the launch passed the first series’ 28-day opening record of 14.8 million inside a week. The corporation described the launch as the biggest for any series, scripted or unscripted, across the whole market since at least 2022, Radio Times reported. The BBC said 8.9 million views of the first two episodes came through iPlayer, 58 percent of the audience, and that 3.1 million of the viewers were aged 16 to 34, a record for the programme.

On Thursday night, October 22, the former EastEnders actor Ross Kemp was murdered in plain sight. The three Traitors — Maya Jama, James Acaster and the content creator King Kenny — had been set the task of “boring a Faithful to death”: perfume sprayed in a room stood in for poison, and the first Faithful to yawn and inhale it would be the victim, PA reported. Kemp yawned first, after Acaster said to him: “Sorry, am I boring you?” The episode peaked at 10.3 million viewers, with an average of 10 million and a 59.9 percent share of the audience, the BBC said — the joint most-watched episode of the series so far, matching episode three, in which Richard E Grant was banished. Jerry Hall was banished at the roundtable in the same episode, PA reported.

Radio Times, publishing figures supplied by Barb, gave that same Thursday episode an overnight audience of 10.03 million. The overnight figure and the BBC’s 10.3 million are different measures — an overnight audience against a peak — for the same episode.

Friday night’s episode averaged 9.5 million viewers, with a 57.2 percent share and a peak of 9.7 million, the BBC said, in PA’s report. Comedian Miranda Hart was murdered by the Traitors earlier in the episode; PA reported that she was killed off because the Traitors judged her “a good detective.” Hart said the programme had allowed her to “get back and do the thing that I love professionally,” and added: “There was times I didn’t think that would be possible again.”

The episode then ended without a result. Actress Sharon Rooney and comedian Joanne McNally were left facing banishment at the roundtable, and the programme finished before King Kenny, one of the three Traitors, cast the deciding vote on which of them would leave, PA reported. Kenny holds a dagger, given to him by Winkleman earlier in the series, that gives his vote double weight in the roundtable, episode reports said. All three Traitors remained in the game when the episode ended.

The series continues on Thursday, and the ten-episode run ends with the finale on Friday, October 30, at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer, the BBC has confirmed, in reports carried by Particle News and Hello Rayo. The final episode runs for 80 minutes.
