The Country Music Association announced its first performers for the 60th Annual CMA Awards on Thursday: Cody Johnson, Miranda Lambert, Ella Langley, Tim McGraw, Kacey Musgraves, The Red Clay Strays, Zach Top and Tucker Wetmore, plus a special tribute to Dolly Parton. The show is Wednesday, November 18, from 8:00 to 11:00 PM ET at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, live on ABC and Disney+, and on Hulu the next day. Lainey Wilson hosts, for the third consecutive year.
The Two Records
Ella Langley leads all nominees with nine, including Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year, plus two nominations each for Single and Song of the Year. She won three CMAs last year; the nine make her the night's central figure in a way the performer list merely confirms.
Miranda Lambert's record is the career kind. She has seven nominations this year, bringing her career total to 70 — the most by any female artist in CMA history — including her 19th nomination for Female Vocalist of the Year. Lambert has been nominated in that category across three decades of the show; the 60th edition will mark the milestone in the building where she has won it repeatedly.
The Night Itself
The Parton tribute is the show's emotional anchor — a special segment honouring the artist whose shadow covers the entire genre, staged in a year when the awards themselves turn 60. Wilson's third straight hosting turn makes her the show's defining host of the decade; the Association does not hand the job to the same person three years running by accident.
More performers are expected to be announced before the 18th. The shape of the night is already set, though: a coronation attempt by the artist with nine nominations, a history mark for the artist with seventy, and a tribute to the one artist bigger than the institution giving it.
The Lambert number deserves its own context: 70 career nominations is a record not just of excellence but of duration — she passed every other woman in the Association's history while still competing, at this year's show, in the same Female Vocalist category she first entered as a newcomer. Her 19th nomination in that category, against Langley's nine-nomination night, sets up the show's cleanest storyline: the record-holder and the heir on the same ballot, in the same room, on the same night.
The Parton tribute, announced without detail, is the other certainty of the evening. The CMA has staged tributes before, but attaching one to the 60th anniversary show — with the genre's current generation on the performer list the same night — positions it as the broadcast's centrepiece rather than a segment. ABC gets three hours, Disney+ the stream, Hulu the morning after: the Association's milestone show is built to be watched in every format country music's audience now uses. What is left to announce — the remaining performers, the presenters, the tribute's lineup — will land across the next two weeks, on the road to November 18.
