Liverpool won at home for the first time this season on Sunday, beating Brighton & Hove Albion 2–0 at Anfield, and Newcastle United won 2–0 at Crystal Palace in a four-match Premier League Sunday that also produced draws at Hull City and Sunderland.

Liverpool 2, Brighton 0

Liverpool’s goals came four minutes apart in the first half. Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross turned the ball into his own net in the 17th minute, and Alexander Isak added the second in the 21st minute from a pass by Bradley Barcola. Neither side scored again, and Liverpool closed out a 2–0 win that stands as the club’s first home victory of the season in the league.

The result ended Brighton’s run of four straight league wins. Liverpool move to fourth place on 15 points, one point behind Brighton, who remain ahead of them in the table despite the defeat at Anfield.

Both Liverpool goals arrived in a four-minute span of the first half, the first an own goal by Gross in the 17th minute and the second scored by Isak in the 21st. Liverpool did not concede in the remaining time, and the 2–0 scoreline at Anfield was one of two identical away-and-home results on the day, matched by Newcastle’s win by the same score in London.

Crystal Palace 0, Newcastle United 2

Newcastle scored both of its goals in the second half at Selhurst Park. William Osula opened the scoring in the 47th minute, and Harvey Barnes added the second in the 58th minute to complete a 2–0 away win over Crystal Palace.

The three points lift Newcastle to seventh place on 11 points. Palace did not score at home, and Newcastle’s two goals, from Osula in the 47th minute and Barnes in the 58th, both came in the second half — the opposite pattern from Anfield, where Liverpool’s two goals against Brighton were both scored in the first 21 minutes.

Hull City 1, Brentford 1

Hull City led at home through an Oli McBurnie penalty in the 24th minute. Brentford equalized in the second half through Dango Ouattara, and the match finished 1–1, with each side taking one point.

McBurnie’s penalty, scored in the first half, was the only goal of the opening period. Ouattara’s reply came after halftime, and neither side scored again, so the points were shared in the first of the day’s two drawn matches.

Sunderland 0, Leeds United 0

The day’s late match at the Stadium of Light finished without a goal. Leeds United appealed for a penalty for an incident involving Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but the appeal was dismissed after a VAR review, and Sunderland and Leeds played out a 0–0 draw.

Sunday’s Results in Full

The four finals: Liverpool 2, Brighton & Hove Albion 0; Crystal Palace 0, Newcastle United 2; Hull City 1, Brentford 1; Sunderland 0, Leeds United 0. Six goals were scored across the four matches.

Sunday’s results leave Liverpool fourth on 15 points, one behind Brighton, and Newcastle seventh on 11 points, with the two drawn matches at Hull and Sunderland completing the day’s Premier League schedule.
