Elizabeth Holmes Documentary Grows to $19.5 Million in Its Second Weekend; ‘Clayface’ Opens at No. 1 with $24 Million

The weekend’s top film was a new release, DC’s “Clayface,” at $24 million. The number underneath it was the unusual one: the Holmes documentary grew in its second weekend, to $19.5 million, as its theater count jumped by 1,800. All of the figures are Sunday estimates from Rentrak, not finals.

DC’s “Clayface” opened at No. 1 at the North American box office with $24 million, according to Sunday estimates from Rentrak reported by MyNewsLA, USA Today and TradingView, and the Elizabeth Holmes documentary “You Can See Everything” took in $19.5 million in its second weekend — a gross that rose, rather than fell, in week two. Every figure published on Sunday is an estimate; the final numbers follow on Monday.

“Clayface” made its $24 million in 3,458 theaters and took in about $43 million worldwide, the reports said. The reports do not agree on the billing. MyNewsLA billed the film as starring Tom Rhys Harries in the title role. TradingView billed it as starring David Dencik and Naomi Ackie. Both reports name James Watkins as the director. The two billings are printed here as published; the $24 million opening and the No. 1 position are the same in each.

“You Can See Everything,” the documentary about Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, grossed $19.5 million in its second weekend, up about 25 percent from its opening weekend, after the film expanded by 1,800 theaters to 2,655. Its domestic total stands at $45.1 million. Second-weekend grosses ordinarily fall after an opening; this film’s rose because it was playing in 1,800 more theaters than the week before, the expansion the estimates reflect.

Behind the top two, the animated “Wildwood” opened in third place. MyNewsLA put its opening at $11.7 million; CinemaNerdz put it at $11.6 million. “Street Fighter” was fourth with $8.6 million in its second weekend. The overall weekend came to $94.9 million, and the year-to-date total reached $8.36 billion, up 20.2 percent, according to the Rentrak figures the outlets published.

All of these numbers are Sunday estimates, compiled by Rentrak and published by MyNewsLA, USA Today and TradingView, with CinemaNerdz reporting its own figure for “Wildwood.” Estimates are the studios’ and Rentrak’s projections for the full weekend, published before the weekend has closed, and positions on the chart can move when the final figures are posted on Monday. The estimates are what the reports agree on, apart from the two differences printed above: the “Clayface” billing and the $100,000 between the two “Wildwood” figures.

The weekend’s reported numbers, as published: “Clayface” at No. 1 with $24 million in 3,458 theaters and about $43 million worldwide; “You Can See Everything” at $19.5 million in its second weekend, up about 25 percent, in 2,655 theaters, for a $45.1 million domestic total; “Wildwood” third at $11.7 million (MyNewsLA) or $11.6 million (CinemaNerdz); “Street Fighter” fourth at $8.6 million in its second weekend; a $94.9 million overall weekend; and a year-to-date total of $8.36 billion, up 20.2 percent.
