52 Points, 24 Rebounds, 8 Blocks: Wembanyama’s Night For The Record Books

Victor Wembanyama did it sick, on a rolled ankle, in 34 minutes: a career-high 52 points, a career-high 24 rebounds and 8 blocks as San Antonio beat Dallas 112-111 for its sixth straight win. The record books needed several pages.

San Antonio beat Dallas 112-111 on Wednesday night, and the box score will be kept. Victor Wembanyama scored 52 points, took 24 rebounds and blocked 8 shots in 34 minutes — career highs in points and rebounds — added two assists and two steals, made 16 of 28 shots and 19 of 23 free throws, and scored 10 of the Spurs’ last 12 points, including the winning free throw with 24.2 seconds left. It was San Antonio’s sixth consecutive win. Dallas got 29 points from Kyrie Irving, 22 from Naji Marshall and 21 points with 10 rebounds from P.J. Washington, with Cooper Flagg adding 19 and 10 — and lost anyway, by a point, to a performance the Associated Press reported he produced while battling a virus and after rolling his ankle in the fourth quarter, to MVP chants in his own building.

The records, as compiled by the AP, ESPN and the NBA: Wembanyama is the second player since blocks became an official statistic in 1973-74 to record at least 50 points, 20 rebounds and 5 blocks in a game, joining Bob McAdoo, who did it in 1974 — and the first since the NBA-ABA merger. He is the first player in the play-by-play era, since 1996-97, to put up at least 25 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks in a single half; his first half alone was 29 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks. His 8 blocks are the most ever recorded in a 50-point game since the statistic was kept, and his 24 rebounds are the most in a 50-point game since Chris Webber’s 51 points and 26 rebounds in 2001. He is the first player in Spurs history with 50 points and 20 rebounds in a game, and only the third Spur with multiple 50-point games, after George Gervin (five) and David Robinson (three). With Wilt Chamberlain and Elgin Baylor, he is one of three players ever to record 50 points and 20 rebounds in a game decided by a single point. His previous career high was 50 points, against Washington in 2024.

One statistical footnote, reported by USA Today citing OptaSTATS, captures the oddity of the line: no player in the league had previously accumulated that exact five-stat combination — the 52 points, 24 rebounds, 8 blocks, 2 steals and 19 free throws — across an entire 82-game season, let alone in a single night. It was the second 50-point game of Wembanyama’s career, after the 50 he scored against Washington in 2024, and it came with a +23 plus-minus in his 34 minutes: San Antonio outscored Dallas by 23 points while he was on the floor, in a game it won by one.

What the numbers describe is a player bending a game out of shape at both ends simultaneously: 24 rebounds and 8 blocks is a defensive line that would headline most nights by itself; 52 points on 28 shots with 19 made free throws is an offensive one. Wembanyama is 22 years old. The Spurs, who started the season as a curiosity built around him, have now won six straight, and the league’s record book — which has a section, effectively, for things that have happened once since 1973 — added another entry with his name on it on Wednesday night.

The Facts
