The cheapest way into American Family Field on Friday night costs more than the cheapest way into the Super Bowl. Resale prices for Game 1 of the World Series put the get-in at about $2,700 for standing room, per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel this week, and about $2,809 in Front Office Sports’ check — above the $2,600 entry price for Super Bowl LX. Milwaukee has waited 44 years for this game; the market is pricing the wait.
The comparison the Journal Sentinel dug up: in 1982, the last time the Brewers reached the World Series, a lower-level ticket carried a face value of $18, and bleacher seats were $8.
USA Today’s fan reporting found the workaround Milwaukee fans have settled on: skip the home games and fly to St. Petersburg for Games 3, 4 and 5 at Tropicana Field, where the total trip — flights included — runs at roughly half the cost of getting into one game at home. One fan USA Today profiled paid $2,500 for Game 1; in 1982 he had been sent to bed during Game 7, at age 9, with Milwaukee leading.
The prices, in brief
- Game 1 get-in: about $2,700 (standing room, Journal Sentinel) to $2,809 (Front Office Sports)
- Super Bowl LX get-in: $2,600
- 1982 World Series face values in Milwaukee: $18 lower level, $8 bleachers
- The workaround (USA Today): fly to St. Petersburg for Games 3–5 at about half the cost, flights included
- Timeless Ticket holders: some angry at upper-level seats offered (SI)
Not everyone holding a golden ticket is happy. Sports Illustrated reports that some holders of the Brewers’ “Timeless Tickets” — tickets bought years ago, redeemable for a future World Series — are angry at the upper-level seats they were offered when the future finally arrived.
